NCEA Level 1 Science 2

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs C. Mackintosh

Recommended Prior Learning

Overall teacher recommendation across the year, and performing up to level 5P or above across the Nature of Science strands over Year 10. Further evidence will come from a range of sources including student portfolios and Education Perfect tasks.

This course covers a range of internal assessments and external assessments. It is expected that students in this course will sit 2 external papers.

If you are interested in taking Physics, Chemistry and/or Biology in year 12 then you need to do either science 1 or science 2.

Science 1 has the expectation that you are pushing for excellence and students will be challenged and kept moving at a quicker pace than science 2.

Science 2 students will be offered the same standards as science 1 but they are covered at a slower pace so they may not get through them all.

Science 1 and 2 are expected to purchase a SCIPAD workbook and these are extensively used throughout the course.

A student will be withdrawn from a standard if the teacher is not confident that the achievement of the standard is within the reach of the student or there is no evidence of the student attempting the assessment.
