This course allows students to apply key concepts within a practical setting, in both individual and team sporting environments.
Students will build a sound knowledge base, to allow them to move confidently into Level 1 Physical Education. This course involves participation in leadership, exercise physiology, fitness and water safety. Through these units we will we also link our learning to kotahitanga as this a key aspect of Level 1 Physical Education.
As a performance based subject, students will be assessed both in the classroom and within a practical setting through fitness testing, a project work and sports leadership.
It is recommended that all students participate in the water safety unit. This will take place at a variety of locations - AC baths, Lake Taupo and Mount Maunganui Surf Life Saving Club.
Semester A
Water Safety - visit a variety of locations - AC Baths, Lake Taupo and Mount Maunganui. At these locations students will learn water survival and rescue techniques using a variety of rescue devices.
Human body project - Students will gain insight to how their body responds to exercise. Key learning of the 4 body systems, energy systems and fitness testing, will enable them to set goals based around their fitness and sporting context.
Sports Leadership - Students will be exposed to a range of leadership opportunities in challenging situations, where they will learn more about their own leadership style and leadership qualities.
Semester B

NCEA Level 1 Physical Education
Contributions and Equipment/StationeryStudents must have the correct PE uniform, as described in the uniform regulations.
Contribution of $40 towards the Beach Education Day and Student workbook
