NCEA Level 3 Accounting

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr T. Tinworth.

Students wishing to study business, commerce or law at tertiary level will benefit from Level 3 Accounting, as will those wishing to take up employment in an accounting type job. The content of the course includes:

  • Formation of partnerships and companies
  • Reporting financial information and the study of financial reporting standards
  • Management accounting for decision making
  • Analysis and interpretation of company annual reports
  • Job costing for decision making

While this course builds upon the knowledge and skills taught in NCEA Levels 1 and 2, this course has been successfully picked up by competent students willing to make a substantial effort.

A student will be withdrawn from a standard if the teacher is not confident that the achievement of the standard is within the reach of the student or there is no evidence of the student attempting the assessment.

Recommended Prior Learning

14 or more credits at Level 2 NCEA accounting or in consultation with the teacher in charge of accounting. Leads to tertiary study.


If Accounting was studied in 2022 then there are only 2 further external standards that can be assessed. (Unless students wish to redo standards to score a higher grade.
