Recommended Prior LearningRecommendation by your Year 12 physical education teacher or entry at the discretion of the Head of Faculty, Health & Physical Education, if you have not taken this subject before.
This course is based on level 8 of HPE in the New Zealand curriculum and is aimed at students who wish to study Physical Education in greater detail.
There is a camp in term 1 where students are assessed on their performance of a skill (paddle boarding). We also use the Tough Guy and Gal challenge as our event in term 3 for our training programme.
Students are required participate in all practical lessons as well as theory. We encourage leadership at Level 3 and a display of our core values in all areas.
Term 1
This term we utilise the weather and our local environment and begin with a paddle boarding unit.
Students will learn the skills involved as well as learning the relevant biophysical principles.
The unit will end with a camp in Ohope where students will participate in paddle boarding races and theory sessions with completion of 2 achievement standards as the outcome.
Term 2
This term students will evaluate their past physical education experiences and develop understanding of the link to their experiences and their well being finishing in a written assessment.
Term 3
Students will spend time completing a training programme in class time and are working towards participating in the Tough Guy/Gal mud run at Lakes Ranch, Rotorua.
They will finish with a written report on their biophysical knowledge around the training programme.
Term 4
Term is based on completion of outstanding knowledge and pieces of work as well as an optional research standard for students still attempting to achieve UE from this subject.
It is recommended that students attend all paddle board sessions and camp and complete the Tough Guy & Gal challenge.
It is recommended students pay the course costs of $175 which includes camp, transport and paddle board hireage and the tough guy/gal challenge.
