Recommended Prior LearningIt is an advantage to have studied this subject in Year 11 but any student is able to take this course.
If you have never done textiles before, or it has been a long time since you took this subject, it doesn't matter - there are no pre-requisites, we will teach you what you need to learn.
Students are given the opportunity to follow their own passion projects in order to create a textiles based item for an end user or purpose. Either a full load of technology Achievement Standards (pathway for University entrance) or practical sewing Industry Unit Standards are offered. Students will pick the course relevant to their future pathways. Students are encouraged to work towards a minimum of 16 technology achievement standard credits with the opportunity to gain more credits for the most dedicated and passionate learners. Students have an option of working on one, two or three projects depending on their own personal goals.
The practical Industry based course will develop technical sewing skills.
The University Enterance Pathway course will apply the technological design process for these projects. This course will be helpful to prepare students for a future in the field of fashion, and is part of a pathway to university approved credits at Year 13.
A student will be withdrawn from a standard if the teacher is not confident that the achievement of the standard is within the reach of the student or there is no evidence of the student attempting the assessment.
