Year 10 Maori Performing Arts
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Mr G. Rameka
This course will cover the basic skills required for Māori Performing Arts and Kapa Haka.
Skills will cover theory of skills, and concepts behind performance.
Students will be introduced to the use of patu and rākau as well as foot movements unique to Ngāti Tuwharetoa.
Students will learn about the history of Kapa Haka and look at the variety of performing arts costumes and regalia.
Students will also have the opportunity to gain a Toi Whakaari Māori Level 1 Unit Standard (Demonstrate knowledge of people associated with Maori Performing Arts).
Recommended Prior Learning
An interest in Māori Performing Arts / Kapa Haka.
