Course Description

Civic Studies

This course focuses on how people function within society and will encourage students to perform as informed and knowledgeable young adults. It will focus on civic related competencies such as employment law, voting, taxation, insurance, banking products, renting properties and budgeting for example. Topics may vary according to student interest.

The course is fully internally assessed. 

A student will be withdrawn from a standard if the teacher is not confident that the achievement of the standard is within the reach of the student or there is no evidence of the student attempting the assessment.




Recommended Prior Learning

Students should have a complete NCEA L.2 as all material used in this course  is L.3.

Pathway

This course will be useful for any pathway selected by a senior student. It is comprised of Unit Standards and is a NOT U.E approved subject.
Students will have some choice selecting units which appeal to them.
There will be presentations from experts in the community and visits to community agencies as students explore what is available to them in Taupo. These may include Citizens Advice Bureau, Police, YWRC, banks, insurers and Police.
