Year 10 Dance

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs N. Quinn.

The Year 10 option dance program is available to all Year 9 students regardless of ability or level of dance.

The course covers:

  • Introduction to dance terminology.
  • Dance history.
  • Introduction to dance composition, working in groups to create and choreograph dance pieces.
  • A range of styles and genres.

Through this course, students will be exposed to choreographers that have defied expectations and left an infallible mark on the dance world such as Neil Iremira, Parris Goebel, Bob Fosse, and Alvin Ailey. Students will learn new techniques, examine stimuli used by choreographers and investigate how choreographers communicate ideas through movement.  A range of dance styles will be explored through this class including contemporary, hip hop, and Samoan sasa.

This course will require students to be creative. They will have the opportunity to develop their own choreographic, performance and analytic skills. Students who take this course will have performance opportunities both in class and in larger venues. 



Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

Any associated workshop cost may be extra.
Students are encouraged to bring their own laptop.
