NCEA Level 3 Mathematics With Statistics

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr C. Walton

The course covers an introduction to probability theory and to the analysis of data, in preparation for university level statistics papers. Analysis of data will require students to complete research and write analytical reports. These reports are generally 3-5 pages long and require a good level of literacy. The course is assessed through Level 3 achievement standards. Entry for the external achievement standards is dependent on passing the appropriate formative assessment.

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

2x Maths Exercise Book (1J5) or Ringbinder and A4 Refill, ruler, Casio Graphical Calculator (from school office)
It is recommended that students bring their own device eg laptop, chromebook or similar. For the externals, a Casio FX 9750GA Plus graphics calculator is highly recommended. Though expensive, students are at a disadvantage in external examinations without it.

Recommended Prior Learning

Recommendation from teacher of Level 2 Mathematics and 15 L2 credits which must include 1) AS91256 or AS91269; 2) AS91265 or AS91264 or one from either of the two English standards AS91098 or AS91099; and 3) the external AS91267.
