Year 10 Music Technology

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs L. Wigram.

This is a practical course focusing on a mix of music technology, composition, practical music on a chosen instrument. This course is cnetred around different projects where students learn the basics of composing, recording and making music videos. The modules in Year 10 are streamlined to allow students to take music in Year 11 and look at the following:

Tuakiri mā te Waiata - Identity through Music: in this unit students will explore Māori symbols and how they are relevant to their past, current and future pathways. Students write a song and use the symbols to create a short music video. We use technology and notation software to create music. In class we offer GarageBand, Sibelius and iMovie.

Practical music: this module runs throughout the semester and students have practical workshops with a specialist teacher. Students perform as part of a group, as an individual or through the computer as electronic music. Students are able to focus on technology only in this class and do not have to take an instrument.

Music Technology: students learn about aspects of sound gear and technology and how to set it up, and record music - both live and in a studio. We go to AVP to have a look at a live recording studio as a possible pathway. Music technology is used to create different kinds of music.
