Year 10 Food & Nutrition

Course Description

Food Technology teaches students about the exciting world of food product development. Theoretical work will involve researching, designing, developing and evaluating food outcomes. Students will also examine current issues in food development and learn about conducting consumer research.

Practical work will involve designing, trialing and developing own choice outcomes and the opportunity to get involved in experiments and consumer testing. The major goal of practical lessons is to create a varied practical skill base and a confident learner in the kitchen.
They will use these skills to design, trial and develop a range of food products. This will involve research, designing, developing and evaluation of their food product.

Students will also learn about good food choices to enhance their health and well-being.

This is a semester course, so students will be able to select another subject for the other half of the year.

Course Overview

Semester A
Masterfood unit gives a broad base for a firm foundation in food technology and nutrition.
Healthy food and nutritional guidelines, with a focus on cultural foods.

Semester B
Masterfood unit gives a broad base for a firm foundation in food technology and nutrition.
Healthy food and nutritional guidelines, with a focus on cultural foods.

Year 10 Food and Nutrition supports students for Food Technology and Nutrition and/or Hospitality in senior school.
