Year 10 Fashion and Textiles Technology
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Mrs P. Simmonds.
Students follow the technology process in product development to research, design and make a range of projects, using textile materials. They will have access to state-of-the-art equpiment. Skills in this course will include: the use of sewing machines and overlockers, vinyl/screen printing, laser cutter, developing practical sewing skills as well as applying the design thinking process. The different projects that students choose will be centered on their own student choice (eg projects in 2024 were hoodies, pj pants, baby bibs for womens refuge). Although the year 10 course is mainly a hands-on practical course, it can also lead to university approved subjects in design and technology in the senior school.
Further courses are available in Years 11, 12 and 13. There are career opportunities in all fields of clothing and related industries for example, Apparel and Textile design, Interior design or in the Technology Industry through product development and project management
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
It is recommended students pay $55 which covers the cost of the take home materials used in the course.

Pathway
This course leads to students being able to study Fashion and Textile technology in the senior school. Ultimately, the level 3 course can either be a practical skilled course or a University Entrance approved course depending on the pathway students wish to take.
