Year 10 Art - Design

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr G. Lindsay.

Students will cover a range of design techniques, including drawing and painting skills, with a focus on the principles of design and the design process to develop their own techniques and ideas in the creation of design-based projects.

A range of the following activities are included: Research into creative ideas for original design concepts, developing the design concepts to produce and original skateboard design, the final production of an actual  skateboard design, and a lino print project that incorporates the design principles. There may be opportunities for some photoshop exposure

Course Overview

Term 1
Semester 1
Introduction to drawing skills and the use of mixed media.
A study of the principles of Design.
Commercial design research
Developing ideas for a commercial art work

Term 2
Semester 1
The production of concepts for the Skateboard design.
Developing the ideas for the skateboard design.
Producing a well thought through final design for the skateboard.
Lino print design.

Term 3
Semester 2
Introduction to drawing skills and the use of mixed media.
A study of the principles of Design.
Research of themes to be used for the Skateboard design.

Term 4
Semester 2
The production of concepts for the Skateboard design.
Developing the ideas for the skateboard design.
Producing a well thought through final design for the skateboard.
Lino print design.

Recommended Prior Learning

A good knowledge of the skills that were introduced in year 9 Art.

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

It is recommended students pay $30 which covers the cost of the take home materials used in the course.
A3 Visual diary, eraser, 6B pencil, sharpener, Coloured pencils, Scissors, Glue stick
